New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Health Promotion Coordinator reporting to Associate Director of Health Promotion & Sexual Misconduct Support.

The Health Promotion Coordinator assists in the development and implementation of education/prevention efforts related to community health and well-being.  The coordinator will support the work of the Health Promotion Office (HPO) in a variety of capacities, including but not limited to:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of a broad spectrum of integrated health education and health promotion programs
  • Assisting with the training of student leaders on facilitating programs related to risk-reduction; providing operational support for all HPO initiatives
  • Collaborating with other Campus Life departments, including the Health and Wellness Center, Residential Education, and Fitness and Athletics, as well as Student Interest Groups
  • Operational and programmatic support of the Campus Life health committee (Health Consortium)
  • Providing administrative support for departmental programs and functions

In partnership with the Associate Director, the coordinator will recruit, train, and supervise the HPO paid student assistants. This is a student-facing role, and as such, the Health Promotion Coordinator is expected to proactively build relationships with students across NYUAD to better understand the student experience and foster effective collaborations. 

This role will provide direction for student assistants in developing social media, marketing, and, design projects that support the mission of the HPO. The coordinator will liaise with Public Affairs, and other internal stakeholders, to maintain consistent and contextual messaging for various audiences.

Duties may include clerical and project-based work, and at times, may be sensitive in nature and require confidentiality.


The position requires nights and weekends commitments during the academic year.

Key Responsibilities

Health Education

Supporting the development and implementation of all health education and promotional programming tailored to the specific needs of our students, including:

  • Facilitating/organizing workshops, and gathering feedback to better inform future programming
  • Assessing population-specific health topics related to wellness and risk-reduction
  • Working in collaboration with students to provide accessible and dynamic outreach that meet the goals of the HPO and the University at large

Supervision of Student Interns

  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, recruit, hire, supervise, advise and manage HPO’s paid student assistants on task planning and implementation
  • Work with the students to meet the vision and goals of the office and recognize how their day-to-day tasks contribute to the success of the office
  • Ensure that they are creating timelines and workflow processes
  • Oversee the development and implementation of graphic designs and social media content to ensure that they maintain the office brand and are tailored to meet the specific needs of various stakeholders Monitor social media analytics as part of comprehensive social media strategy
  • Liaise with Public Affairs and other internal stakeholders regarding communications/marketing initiatives for the department

Campus Life Collaboration

  • Collaborate with colleagues across Campus Life departments (Residential Education, Health and Wellness Center, Fitness and Wellness, amongst others) and with various student groups, including NYUAD’s peer support group, to further assess the campus needs and support the implementation of shared and unified messaging related to health education
  • Serve on ad-hoc Campus Life committees and contribute to broader University initiatives related to student well being as needed across the year

Administration & Assessment

  • Oversee all logistics for programs, such as room booking, event promotion, catering orders, management of RSVPs, budget expense tracking, set up and break down
  • Prepare reports detailing projects, initiatives and operational matters
  • Analyze evaluations, data and feedback in a comprehensive manner and as required

Education Requirements

Essential
  • Bachelor’s Degree
Desirable
  • Master’s degree in public health, health education, social work or related field

Experience Requirements

Essential
  • Experience with emotional, mental, and physical health-related programming and/or outreach
  • Experience working with young adults
  • Experience and competency discussing sensitive topics with a wide-range of audiences in a way that is both informative and culturally competent
  • Experience with facilitation, including public speaking and development of compelling presentations/messages
  • Experience advising young adults/students
  • Demonstrated interest in working in a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty
  • Ability to work nights and weekends during the academic year
  • Experience and proficiency in the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and events   
Desirable
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing health promotion or health education outreach/support in an educational environment
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including experience and familiarity working with international students
  • Familiarity and/or experience with student engagement, support, and development practices in higher education
  • Experience with basic video editing
