New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Academic HR Partner to support the Division of Arts & Humanities.  

The Academic HR Affairs Office serves as the HR partner for all academic divisions/units to provide a full range of human resource advisory and support, including but not limited to; recruitment, appointments, onboarding, contract renewals and status changes, leaves, off boarding. The appointed Academic HR Partner will be dedicated to the Division of Arts & Humanities to support the implementation of effective HR practices that aligns with their divisional goals and objectives. This role will serve as the single point of contact to the Division of Arts & Humanities and will act the primary strategic partner and advisor to the Arts & Humanities leadership team.

The Academic HR Partner will also be required to liaise with relevant HR departments on behalf of the academic divisions/units on matters such as payroll, performance management, compensation and benefits, professional development, employee relations, etc.

The suitable candidate will also be a subject matter expert on policies and procedures, and will be expected to handle a high volume of workload and competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Consulting

  • Provide a range of human resource support to the Division of Arts & Humanities, consistent with the requirements of the law within the United Arab Emirates, HR best practices and NYUAD policies
  • Build a strong business relationship with the Division of Arts & Humanities
  • Serve as the primary HR contact to advice staff within the Division of Arts & Humanities on human resources policies and procedures
  • Liaise with Provost Office of Finance on academic headcount, research funds, proposals, funds renewals, carryovers, extensions, external grants, summer salaries and others
  • Challenge and influence strategic thinking and planning of stakeholders whilst maintaining compliance with policies, University vision and mission and divisions/units goals and objectives

Employment

  • Oversee the on-boarding process for new joiners in the Division of Arts & Humanities as administered by the different departments
  • Compose, review, and direct distribution of all letters for new hires, and changes in employment status
  • Monitor, track and facilitate timeliness of personnel actions, e.g. academic reviews
  • Support academic activities such as promotion and tenure, leave, performance evaluations including extended reviews, international employment, administrative appointments and others
  • Facilitate reclassification request process, seek necessary approvals and coordinate submission to HR. Provide consultation on the documentation and submission of reclassification requests
  • Manage compensation related issues (e.g., pay adjustment, supplemental pay, etc.)
  • Under the guidance of the University’s Compensation and Benefits department, provide guidelines and assistance in the administration and review of the annual performance appraisal process and the annual employee merit process
  • Troubleshoot pay issues and work with Payroll to resolve and manage resolution

Records Management

  • Manage and maintain records in employee files
  • Ensure accuracy in employee records in Workday
  • Provides employee related records as required

Other

  • Support recruitment activities as required
  • Creates reports and responds to inquiries for information by providing accurate and timely data
  • Represents the Division of Arts & Humanities through participation in Human Resources related meetings, discussions, and search committees
  • Seek to continuously improve the quality and value of the HR service provided to the University
  • Contribute to any new initiatives with the department
  • Perform other job related duties as necessary

 


Education Requirements

Essential
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Human Resources, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Experience Requirements

Essential
  • Minimum of five years of work experience providing comprehensive client-focused HR services in the Higher Education sector. A solid generalist experience within a dynamic academic environment characterized by significant change
  • Well-developed consultancy and influencing skills
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to provide concise written and oral briefings on complex issues, often at short notice
  • Knowledge of UAE labor law
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to communicate cross-functionally with all levels
  • Proven complex problem solving skills plus a teamwork and dedicated customer service approach
  • Ability to manage time and priorities effectively
  • Experience with the computer software products; strong knowledge of Excel spreadsheet and HRIS experience either with Workday, PeopleSoft or a similar system
