NYU Abu Dhabi Lecture Series in New York City
Curated by Anne Rademacher
Much is made of the fact that, for the first time in human history, the majority of the world’s population resides in cities. Scholarly work urges a complete re-thinking of ‘the urban’ as an object of study, and urban ecology has assumed primary importance within the ecosystem sciences. Against a backdrop of extraordinary wealth and appalling economic disparities, complex technological feats and massive ecological disasters, scholars and policymakers urgently question the socio-ecological consequences of rapid urbanization, and call for re-thinking and re-inventing contemporary urban settings as more sustainable, ‘livable’ cities.
NYUAD offers a multidisciplinary concentration in The Environment that brings together courses in biology, chemistry, political science, and literature. The program reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to becoming a world leader in sustainability and green technologies, an objective NYU also promotes through its Green Grant Projects.
Anne Rademacher is Assistant Professor, Environmental Studies and Department of Social and Cultural Analysis, NYU.
