NYU Abu Dhabi Lecture Series in New York City
Curated by Paul Wachtel
With the increased integration of world markets in the past decade, no corner of the world was unaffected by the economic downtown of 2007-09. Prior to the crisis, macroeconomic policy seemed to be working rather well: inflation had disappeared, trade was expanding, and sustained economic growth was found all over the globe. However, the crisis has led to profound questioning of our policies and institutions and calls for reform are common. But what exactly should these reforms be? This series considers the type and scope of reform necessary to prevent future financial failure. An overarching theme for both sessions will be the need for international coordination to respond to macroeconomic imbalances and to oversee a global financial system where cross border flows rapidly grow.
