MinD/Body: Body Art and Performance in the Gulf Area explores how the body has been represented by Gulf artists over the last 25 years. This group exhibition features three generations of Gulf artists dealing with issues of self-representation, freedom of expression and censorship, beginning with the UAE's Hassan Sharif, an experimental artist active since the early '80s and considered the initiator of conceptual art in the Gulf region. The curator, Cristiana de Marchi, is an artist, writer, and independent curator based in Dubai and Beirut.
Originally produced at DUCTAC under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.
See September 19 for exhibition opening events.
