Workshop Global Gulf: Gulf, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean Connections, Comparisons and Contrasts

By Invitation Only

Location NYUAD Campus, Conference Center

The Global Gulf workshop studies the Gulf as a crucial missing link in world history. By examining historical connections and juxtaposing the Gulf with the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean, the workshop focuses on how this dynamic and diverse region has been, or has become, cosmopolitan during different historical periods. Rather than studying the Gulf (the Khalij) in isolation, scholars of the Gulf are brought together with scholars of other global seas that have seen intense theoretical attention, such as the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean, with the goal of resulting in new ways of thinking about the Gulf in the world.
