Conference Women's Political Participation and Leadership in Developing Countries

By Invitation Only

Date

Location Abu Dhabi

What is the relationship between women's political representation and female empowerment in developing countries? Despite the myriad of institutional and legislative mechanisms introduced by several MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South Asian states to advance women's political participation, very little has been achieved to promote women's status in these regions. Most importantly, very few studies have systematically investigated why these mechanisms fell short of their desired outcomes. This conference brings together scholars to focus on bridging the gap in multidisciplinary literature by investigating the institutional, societal, and economic barriers currently facing women in these countries.
