Workshop Learning from Gulf Cities

By Invitation Only

Date

Location Abu Dhabi

This workshop reverses a more typical point of departure in current urban studies. Instead of assuming the West as “leader,” a source of private and public initiative that has consequences in the East, we trace actual and potential impacts of eastern dynamics as they evolve intra-regionally and beyond the Gulf. Scholars, practitioners, and experts of different disciplines will examine the state of urban affairs in cities of the Gulf — such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Jubail and others. In particular, they will deal with issues of urban planning, design, environmental policy, and labor relations, putting forth innovative perspectives for current and future urban studies.
