Counselor Nomination Process

NYU Abu Dhabi, located in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, will welcome its inaugural class in September 2010. NYU Abu Dhabi will offer students a first-rate liberal arts education in this emerging idea capital, as well as the opportunity for study at other NYU global sites, including New York City, London, Paris, Shanghai, Buenos Aires, and many others. Nominate two students

Nominate two students for NYU Abu Dhabi's early admissions cycle. These two students should be among your highest achievers and should have a global citizen's outlook, a leader's purposefulness, a pioneer's spirit, and an understanding that the future belongs to the bold, not the conventional.

September 25, 2009 First Nomination Deadline

Please submit your nomination (s) electronically on or before Friday, September 25, 2009 for those nominees you think should have the opportunity to visit Abu Dhabi before the November 1 Early Decision application deadline. All candidates wishing to be considered for the October 22-25 Candidate Weekend must be nominated by September 25.

October 25, 2009 Second Nomination Deadline 

You may also submit nominations electronically for other prospective Early Decision applicants or regular January 1 applicants on or before Sunday, October 25.  Please note that NYU Abu Dhabi Admissions will ensure that every qualified applicant for Early Decision or Regular Admission has the opportunity to visit Abu Dhabi before making the decision to accept admission to NYU Abu Dhabi. 

December 1st, 2009 Final Nomination Deadline

The final deadline for submitting nominations is December 1st.  Students nominated by this date will only be considered for Regular Decision admissions.

In addition to completing the NYU Abu Dhabi Counselor Nomination Form please ask each of your nominees to prepare the following assignment and submit it to you digitally. Then cut and paste the student’s original work into the nomination form.

Assignment for the Student Nominee
Please look at the UAE Interact website.  In 500 words or less (one page single-spaced) propose a research project that you would like to undertake as an NYU Abu Dhabi student to gain a deeper understanding of one particular topic of interest to you in the UAE. Pose a research question (in one sentence) and describe how you would go about gathering information to answer your question.  Speak to what you imagine obstacles might be in pursuing your research and any ethical dimensions of the research to which you would need to be attentive.

NYU Abu Dhabi Candidate Weekends

Candidate Weekends give a select group of NYU Abu Dhabi applicants an opportunity to see the campus in Abu Dhabi and to experience NYU Abu Dhabi during an exciting and intellectually rigorous weekend with peers from around the world. No student will be admitted to NYU Abu Dhabi without attending a Candidate Weekend.
 
Applicants selected to travel will be provided with economy class airfare from the international airport closest to their school location, accommodation, meals, and a $200 allowance toward travel expenses (visa, passport, and ground transportation.) The allowance will be paid to the applicants on site in Abu Dhabi.
 
The first Candidate Weekend will be held in Abu Dhabi on October 22-25, 2009 for NYU Abu Dhabi student applicants from nominating schools. Applicants who wish to qualify for travel during this first trip should encourage their school college counselor to nominate them for NYU Abu Dhabi. Only nominating schools can nominate students for this first Candidate Weekend. Please note that not all nominees will travel to Abu Dhabi. In a highly competitive process, NYU Abu Dhabi Admissions will select from among the nominated students a group of qualified applicants to attend the first NYU Abu Dhabi Candidate Weekend. If you represent a secondary school that does not currently hold nominating privileges, please contact the NYU Abu Dhabi Admissions Office for further details.
 
Nominees not selected to travel during the first weekend will be encouraged to apply Early Decision or Regular Admission.  NYU Abu Dhabi Admissions will continue to select qualified candidates from the list of nominees and from all early decision and regular NYU Abu Dhabi applicants between November 1, 2009 and January 31, 2010 for travel to Abu Dhabi during these Candidate Weekends. In addition to the October 2009 trip, Candidate Weekends will be held on November 26-29, 2009; January 28-31, 2010; February 18-21, 2010; and March 11-14, 2010. Some exceptional circumstances will be accommodated and new weekend dates assigned for students who are unable to travel on their designated weekend.

Please note that students traveling from outside the UAE must have a valid passport in order to enter the country, and in some cases, a visa as well. NYU Abu Dhabi will provide assistance to those students who are invited to attend a candidates weekend with obtaining a visa, if necessary. The UAE does not require visas for visitors arriving from more than 30 countries (including member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the US, UK, and much of Europe and Asia), who will be staying less than one month.
