NYU Abu Dhabi is an unprecedented higher education endeavor, which will consist of a highly selective liberal arts and science college, distinctive graduate programs, and a world center for advanced research, scholarship, and creativity. Its first academic initiative, the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute, sponsors and coordinates a comprehensive range of activities, including major academic conferences, lecture and film series, research workshops, exhibitions, theatrical and music performances, and professional and continuing education courses in both New York and Abu Dhabi. In Fall 2008, The NYU Abu Dhabi Institute launched the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed University Scholars Program in Abu Dhabi, as part of a partnership between the national universities and colleges in the U.A.E., and NYU Abu Dhabi.
Named for one of Abu Dhabi's most vigorous supporters of higher education, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Program also enjoys the joint imprimatur of Her Highness Shaikha Mariam bint Mohamed Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi Education Council, and NYU Abu Dhabi. It offers a select cohort of talented university students unique access to specially designed courses, lectures, leadership experiences, networking, graduate school opportunities and scholarships.
